United unable to pull double over Ann Arbor

ANN ARBOR, Mich, – Lansing United traveled to Ann Arbor Saturday in the hopes of beating the league leaders and improving their playoff hopes. Things did not go according to plan.

United fell on the road 0-1 to AFC Ann Arbor finishing the series between the sides with a 1-1-0 record for the season.

Both sides had few opportunities to score in the first half. Ann Arbor had just one more shot than Lansing with four. That shot turned out to be the difference as the home side scored on the stroke of halftime off a rebound from a brilliant save by United keeper Joe White.

The second half saw more shots for each side, but the match still failed to open up. Frustration showed for both teams as both Lansing and Ann Arbor had three players booked in the match.

The Hoops had some of their best scoring opportunities near the match’s end as they played ball after ball into the box, but they could not solve the home side’s defense and the score remained the same as the whistle blew. Ann Arbor remains at the top of the NPSL Great Lakes conference.

Next up United are on the road again Saturday, July 7, as they travel to face the Michigan Stars.

Note: Farai Mutatu made his Lansing United debut coming on in the 69th minute. The Haslett native is the youngest player to appear for the club at just 17 years old.
