Club Statement From President/CEO Jeremy Sampson

WRITTEN BY: Jeremy Sampson
PUBLISHED ON: October 25, 2018

When I began Lansing United in 2014 professional soccer was not an option in Lansing.  There wasn’t a league that was interested in a city the size of Lansing.  In 2018 the landscape of soccer in this country has changed drastically.  As Mayor Schor says “Lansing’s time is now!”  It is our time to bring professional soccer back to Michigan for the first time in nearly forty years.

This is a project that I have been working on for 18 months and today it becomes reality as the Lansing Ignite franchise is named as a founding member of the USL League One.  While I am no longer the owner of the Men’s team I am thrilled that Tom Dickson is.  With his guidance and leadership over the past 23 years the Lansing Lugnuts have proven to be a very successful franchise.  This is not a hostile takeover of my club as some have suggested but this is two like minded individuals joining forces to bring professional soccer to Lansing.

Tom has offered me the position of Vice President and General Manager which I gladly accepted.  I will be responsible for the day-to-day operation of Lansing Ignite.  I will lean on my experiences with Lansing United to make the games at Cooley Law School Stadium fun, entertaining and you have my promise that this team will play as hard as it can with the goal of winning a championship and representing Lansing in a positive way.

The Lansing United Women’s team will take the field for our second season in May under the direction of Head Coach Jason Crist.  Our inaugural season was a smashing success and we will look to build on that in 2019.

Thank you to all the fans and corporate partners who supported the Lansing United Men’s team from 2014-2018, without you this dream of bringing professional soccer to Lansing would never have become a reality.
