Lansing United was hoping its third and final preseason friendly would be a chance to practice game situations ahead of Friday’s NPSL opener, but the weather had other ideas.

Heavy rain and lightning at the East Lansing Soccer Complex led to the match being called off during halftime.

The Ann Arbor Football Club held a 1-0 lead when the match was suspended.

Sunshine and high temps were present at the beginning of the match, but conditions changed around 35 minutes in. Both clubs played through torrential rain for the final 10 minutes.

Lansing United started many players who did not have a chance to play in one of the first two preseason exhibitions. Those who did not play took part in a team training session during the match.

The AAFC converted on one of the lone scoring chances of the half in the 12th minute, striking a ball past goalkeeper Zach Bennett (Michigan State).

After the match was called, players from both sides gathered under the pavilion and had some fun showing off. Dominic Scicluna, a player with Detroit Waza Flo (a professional indoor soccer team located in Melvindale), made an appearance in the YouTube video below.

The club’s first NPSL match of the season is on Friday, May 16 at home against Westfield Select. The match is at 7 p.m. and tickets will be available at the gate. Season ticket packages are also still available for purchase.
