Lansing United released the roster for the club’s inaugural NPSL season Monday morning.

The team’s 2014 roster, announced on its official website, includes all players who will be affiliated with the Lansing United program, including first-team members and reserves.

Head coach/GM Eric Rudland and his coaching staff have spent the past month assembling the roster. Tryouts – which had an attendance of more than 85 players – and multiple preseason friendlies have allowed Rudland the opportunity to scout talent for his squad.

“Our staff of coaches has been working hard to recruit both quality players and men into the organization,” Rudland said. “It was a combined effort and we are pleased with the overall depth and talent of our roster. There is no doubt that we will need to lean on each of our rostered players to help us through our inaugural season.”

The team that will represent Lansing United on the pitch is made up of local, homegrown players and internationals. Each player on the roster has a connection to the state of Michigan aside from six (of the 13) international members.

“In most positions we are two to three players deep,” Rudland said. “That depth is important for competition in training as we strive to further develop each player. Secondly, the depth will allow a healthy rotation of players from match to match.”

Many players on the roster have participated in one of Lansing United’s preseason friendlies. Those who haven’t will play in the club’s third exhibition of the season on Tuesday afternoon against the Ann Arbor Football Club. Players who are not featured on the first-team will get the chance to play reserve team matches. The first reserve team match is May 17 against Detroit City FC’s reserves.

NPSL rules stipulate that there is no limit to the number of reserve players a team can have. No more than 26 players can be registered to play in official NPSL matches, and a maximum of 18 players can dress for a match.

Lansing United kicks off NPSL play this Friday at 7 p.m. against Westfield Select at the East Lansing Soccer Complex.
