Rudland PreviewLansing United is back in action this weekend, as the team will hit the road to take on the Indiana Fire on Sunday.

“This match kind of sets up and dictates how the end of the season unfolds on our end,” Head Coach Eric Rudland said. “The Fire have proven that they are a tough side to deal with and they’ve gotten great results at home so I think we have to respect that going into it.”

The two teams played to a scoreless draw in the opening game of this season and Rudland said he expects another tough match.

“My message to the guys is we have to be confident going into the match,” Rudland said. “To play away, to play against another team, it’s a good opportunity to prove ourselves.”

The game will be United’s first action since the team lost a hard fought battle with the Cincinnati Saints two weeks ago.

Despite the long break, Rudland is feeling confident about his team.

“It’s been a great week of training,” Rudland said. “The guys seem rejuvenated and we’ve got a couple guys healthy that we we hadn’t had in the team for the last few matches before our break.”

Two of those new faces will be Ryan Keener and Andrew Hill. Keener, who came on as a substitute at right back to make his debut agains AFC Cleveland on June 6, will be sliding into a starting slot according to Rudland. Hill, a midfielder from Spring Arbor University, will be looking to make his first appearance for the club. Rudland spoke highly of Hill, saying he has done very well in training.

The match is of the upmost importance, as United sits in third place in the Great Lakes West Conference with 14 points, trailing the Fire and Detroit City who are both tied for first with 17 points with six games remaining. The Fire beat Detroit City 2-0 on Friday, moving out of a tie with United for second place, having played a game more than both United and Detroit City.

Kickoff for Sunday’s match is set for 2 p.m. at Westfield High School.
