While Lansing United’s First Team was busy getting their inaugural season underway, the club’s reserve team was busy doing the same.

The reserves were in action last Saturday, May 17 against Detroit City’s Reserves, a game that finished in a 1-1 draw.

“We had a good match this past weekend,” Rudland said. “It’s primarily all college guys on our reserve team that are looking good, getting games in and staying sharp for their upcoming season.”

The reserve team schedule currently consists of six games. The schedule is as follows:

Saturday, May 7 vs Detroit City Reserves, 1-1 draw

Saturday, May 31 vs TBD, 4 p.m.

Saturday, June 7 vs Mid-Michigan Mens Soccer League All-Stars, 7 p.m.

Thursday, June 26 @ Columbus Crew Super-20’s, noon

Monday, June 30 vs Detroit City Reserves, 7 p.m.

Thursday, July 3 vs San Marino, 3 p.m.

Rudland said the club is still trying to set up matches with the Michigan Star’s Reserves as well.

“I think the level of competition is good,” Rudland said. “It’s not far off the standard our first group for sure. There’s guys breaking in (to the first team) actually this weekend that did well in last weekend’s match.”

Rudland said that the team will usually dress around 15 players and coach Mitch McCaige has taken charge of the squad.

The reserve team is a key part of what the club is trying to build moving forward, according to Rudland.

“We want players that are in the reserve side this year that maybe don’t get in a game but come back next year and they’re further developed and can contribute,” Rudland said. “We’re just trying to look out for all of our guys that are a part of the organization, making sure that they get time to sharpen their skills and improve individually.”
