Tyler Moorman’s 80th minute goal gave Lansing United their second win in three matches defeating the Michigan Stars 2-1 Sunday night in Dearborn Heights.

United remains in third place in the Great Lakes West Conference after earning three points against the Stars (0-0-4). Detroit City (3-0-0) sits in second place behind the Indiana Fire (3-1-0).

“It was a great team effort at the end,” Moorman said. “We just didn’t give up and kept working. The guys really brought it together at the end. We deserved the win overall. It’s good to get the three points.”

Captain Matt Brown started the scoring for United in the 37th minute after Michigan’s goalkeeper was called for a handball just outside the 18-yard box. Brown sent the free kick directly towards the Stars’ wall, where a defender turned aside and allowed the shot to slip through and into the right lower corner of Michigan’s net. All four of Brown’s goals this season have come against the Stars after his hat trick last Sunday against Michigan at East Lansing Soccer Complex.

In the 66th minute, Stars forward Hamoody Saad placed a shot of the left post and into the back of the next to knot the game at 1-1.

“After the game equalized, I thought that our guys responded really well,” United head coach Eric Rudland said. “I think Tyler Moorman came on and brought some life to the game.”
