Lansing United continues their road game streak this weekend against Genesee FC, the other new Michigan team added to the United Women’s Soccer League. Kick off is scheduled for Sunday, May 20 at 7:00 p.m. at Atwood Stadium, located in Flint.

Both teams in inaugural seasons will enter the match with one game each under their belts. Genesee FC will see their first UWS action against the Michigan Legends on Friday, May 18.

The Hoops (0-0-1) are already off to an honorable start in the league after earning a 2-2 draw against Grand Rapids FC, the defending UWS National Champions.

Two United players received recognition for their performances in last weekend’s game. Midfielder Aubrey Schierbeek was named on the UWS- “Team of the Week.”

“Last week we only had two practices before and this week we’ve gotten to work on more tactics,” Shierbeek said in terms of this week’s practices. “I think we’ll be ready going in.”

Defender, Olivia Trembley received an honorable mention from UWS, contributing the reason she scored a goal off teammate Dani Stephan’s free-kick was that they had played together before.

“A Lot of us have played together growing up and I think that’s also an advantage,” Trembley said. “We all already kind of know each other.”

Head coach Jason Crist has been sorting out the team’s shape and figuring out who goes where.

“We worked on a new shape today and there’s a lot more work to be done but so far they’re making good progress,” Crist said.

Lansing United will be accustomed to playing teams from Michigan since the Midwest Conference has five teams out of seven competing from the Mitten State. United will travel out-of-state for matches against Fort Wayne Gryphons and Indy Premier.

After a full week of intense practices and work on tactics, Lansing will look to secure a win and 3 points this weekend on the road.

United staffers will be on-site for the match, so supporters who are unable to make the match can stay updated on the club’s twitter and Facebook.
